We're Doing it Live!

Mon Aug 25, 2008 at 01:30:23 PM PST

Your resident Daily Kos bloggers are here at the Big Tent, which is a two-story structure close to the Pepsi Center and blogger central at the Democratic National Convention.

Besides being filled with bloggers from across the nation, traditional media reporters are also filtering in and conducting interviews.

The questions are invariably the same:  does the media do a good job of covering the race? (No). In X number of years, do you seek blogs taking over traditional media? (No). Does having such a big-ass tent with fancy speakers mean that bloggers are becoming "mainstream"? (Not necessarily, we just like big tents and free beer).

The reality is that blogs are just a tool, a platform of technology that allows regular folks to connect and to share content and opinion. As you can see from the picture above, we span the gamut in terms of age, race and background. And it's that diversity that makes the blogosphere such a vibrant public square for all, not just for the privileged few. Being here in Denver isn't about staking claim at the traditional media table. We're here to provide what the traditional media rarely provide: context.

And beer.

And big tents.

We'll be liveblogging the convention events throughout the week, so stay tuned!
