MoveOn's first Senate ad says Dole & McCain are in 'pocket of big oil'

The liberal activist group MoveOn.org Political Action says it will have spent $500,000 to produce and broadcast this TV ad in North Carolina by the time it has finished its run. The spot aims to tie together incumbent Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole, presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain and "big oil:"

The ad's reference to votes that let oil companies "keep $13.5 billion in tax breaks" refers to a vote Dole cast against ending a filibuster. That filibuster was staged to block an attempt to repeal tax cuts enacted in 2004 and 2005.

McCain was not present for the vote.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the candidate MoveOn supports, has also released an ad charging McCain with being in the "pocket" of big oil.
