While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail.

(CNN) — It was a familiar scene the past couple of months: Barack Obama out on the campaign trail during the weekends while his, John McCain, was off the trail.

So call it a role reversal this weekend.

The Democrat’s presumptive presidential nominee is in Hawaii this weekend and all next week. So what’s on his agenda? Here’s what he said upon arrival in Hawaii Friday night: “I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my family, having a chance to see my grandma.”

Obama grew up in Hawaii and his grandmother and other relatives still live there. But while his plan for the week is some R and R, it’s a safe bet this could be sort of a working vacation for him.

Why? Because the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Denver two weeks from Monday, and Obama needs to start thinking about his nomination acceptance speech.

But there’s another reason. Obama has a big thing on his to do list before the start of the convention, and that’s pick a running mate.

McCain, meanwhile, is on the campaign trail all weekend. He’s in Las Vegas Saturday, to address the 87th annual convention of the Disabled American Veterans.

On Sunday, the Senator from Arizona will campaign in Erie, Pennsylvania. He’ll team up with Erie native Tom Ridge. The former Secretary of Homeland Security and former Pennsylvania Governor is considered to be in the running as a candidate as McCain’s running mate.

Asked by reporters Friday night about taking down time, McCain said even when he isn’t on the campaign trail, he’s still working hard on his campaign.

“What we try to do is take a day or two down. But it seems that when I do that, then they fill it up with briefings and prep and issues and meetings. Since our schedule is public. Last Saturday, ok that is a down day. Start out with meetings and it lasts all day long until the evening,” said the Republican’s presumptive presidential nominee.

Wolf, is it true that former democratic presidential candidate john edwards lied during the presidential campaign trail and why is that a good enough reason for him?

Henry   August 9th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

America will disappoint the expectation of the world if they don't ellect Mr Obama as president. The world wants nothing but a change in American's presidency.

joseph marcucilli   August 9th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Tom Ridge the color code guy,who is pro-choice?That will go over big with evangelicals. Why not spend the week making up more lies about obama which his campaign seems to enjoy and oh yes calling Obama a celebrity when McCain has been on the national stage ever since he dumped his first wife for Cindy.

yankeegirl15   August 9th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Oh goody, Erie is Eriesistable. Stop in Warren, PA (Next County) They will love you there. They like Republicans there too. And most Democrats are those hillbilly ones. They LOVE their guns and religion too. I know-I grew up there.

Obama is going to stop the world with his speech at the DNC. You think Kennedy was good, just wait until the DNC. You are going to see people come out of the woodwork to support him with thier pocketbooks. Mark my words.

Lili, FL   August 9th, 2008 9:24 pm ET

Americans are concerned about the economy and you are reporting Obama's trip to see his grampa!!! Are you kidding?

We already know CNN loves Obama, but give it a rest, report something that is important to America!

T.S.   August 9th, 2008 9:15 pm ET

When I say I will cast my symbolic write-in vote of protest for Hillary Clinton if Obama does NOT put her on the Democratic ticket as VP, that is exactly what I mean. I have no delusions that Senator Clinton will actually be elected President of the United States in a write-in campaign. I POSITIVELY WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR McCAIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, and the only way I would consider voting for Obama is IF and only IF Clinton is on the ticket as VP. I would have no other choice. I just could NOT, in all good conscience, vote for EITHER McCAIN or for an OBAMA administration without CLINTON. But he solution is so simple. If Barack Obama really wants to energize and excite American voters, to truly UNIFY the Democratic Party, and to WIN the election in November, all he has to do is push his ego aside, respect Senator Clinton (and her 18 million), do the right thing for America, and offer Hillary Clinton the VP spot on the Democratic ticket. That way, BOTH Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton could make history. Now that would be EXCITING and ENERGIZING! An OBAMA-CLINTON win in 2008 would be an even bigger WIN for AMERICA! BOTH Senator Obama and Senator Clinton should push their individual egos aside and agree to start saving America TOGETHER!

Dr. Willie   August 9th, 2008 9:14 pm ET

Barack:

Please take this well-deserved vacation and spend some time with your beautiful family. If you have a chance for some light reading, please take time to read "IF" by Rudyard Kipling and "It Couldn't Be Done" by Edgar A. Guest. . As someone who has been traveling across the country visiting all of the Presidential LIbraries in the country and reading about the impact of the Presidents on Civil Rights, I must say that this country has come quite a long way. I someday hope to read about your great deeds in your Presidential Library. But, it all starts with a victory in November.

So, please rest up, recharge the battery, and come out swinging when you return because you are so close that "I can just taste it."

Dr. Willie

Vigla   August 9th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Take a much needed week off Senator Obama. When you return, refreshed and ready to run a successful, unified convention, you can then focus on Senator McCain and convincing the remaining 15% of americans who have not chosen why you are the better choice.

I can't wait for McCain to start responding to adultery charges. He did the exact same thing Edwards did. Only worse. He left his wife and married Barbie the rich heiress so he could satisfy his political ambition.

Vig   August 9th, 2008 9:08 pm ET

We don't want Obama. We want Hillary. Her name will be placed in nomination and delegates should seriously consider pledging to her because Obama will lose in November. Obamaspeak is not impressive. Obama is not impressive as a substantive visionary leader. He's full of charm and words - and not much of anything else.

Spirit of America   August 9th, 2008 8:45 pm ET

After meeting disabled vets in Las Vegas, McCain should stop by the national offices of Pax Christi in Erie (PA) and find out from them how to stop creating a whole new generation of disabled vets.

I might as well vote for Paris Hilton

ken levy   August 9th, 2008 8:31 pm ET

Talk about a flip flopper.Obama would not agree to count the votes in Florida and Michigan after Hillary won both states in the primary. Now he says lets count all the votes. Also Obama has known about the Edwards affair since April.Thats when he went to NC and spent the weekend at Edwards home. The deal they had during the debates to beat up on Hillary, then I will give you the VP after I win fell threw when Obama was told of the affair, bastar baby, and the $15,000.00 a month his lover was getting to keep it quiet.Had Obama picked Edwards not having this iformation it would have been the kiss of death. One wonders what all Obama has hideing in his closet.Maybe the good Rev Wright could help us out.

Disappointed in DC   August 9th, 2008 8:20 pm ET

Obama could never take the role of scum sucker from McSame…this headline is a disgrace.

Rob   August 9th, 2008 8:19 pm ET

I am very excited to see who Obama chooses as vp. He is in a minefield. He has the clinton/unite party issue. He has less experience than pretty much all vp options. He could beef up the ticket with someone great, but that would shift the balance of power away from him. I think maybe that is why he does not want clinton. he wants to be a strong president, not a puppet to the vp. Who could he choose that would make america trust him more but still see him as in charge? I would think it would be someone very accomplished and old and appears socially weak but honest. Or maybe strong, but acts kinda shy around obama himself. without looking like he is being blackmailed by obama.
I hope obama chooses quickly after his vacation.

I think clinton would really be a great choice. At the end of the day, she really has the second weakest resume in pres race after obama himself. She is weak on experience but has been in the "industry" for a long time, and it would unite the party very strongly. The downside is that she has strong support within the party and could cause him trouble if she wanted. Many americans would feel a lot more comfortable with obama's past acquaintences with her on ticket. I guarantee clinton would cause obama to get huge bump in poll numbers. The far-left base and the more moderate base would both be energized. Those angry clinton supporters hoping for a way out will be glad to have excuse to let past wrongs be forgotten. Just give them an excuse Obama! They want the dem party to win so bad, but have committed themselves to her from genderloyalty, a form of bigotry. How hard will it be to reverse bigotry? Pick hillary, that is your only way with some of them

I just hope he will enjoy his grandma and cling on to his dear wife's arm. When people begin to talk about morality and everything perfect like Obama, I would get suspicious. Besides Obama is at that age hence making McCain really old, been there done that and is ready for the challenge as President of the United States. The country is dying for some strong hands and a big heart to lead them back to those glory days.

Obama 08

Rob   August 9th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

I think this is a great choice politically. Obama never saw his dad after the age of 2 and his mom died when he was in his 30's. Obama has no roots. Rev. Wright was a major influence and mentor. Visiting his grandparents and any other american relatives will tie him down to someone people are not necessarily afraid of. Maybe Michelle Obama has some relatives Obama could pretend to be close to. I think it would be great for america if obama won. The country would move towards socialism and terrorism would be treated softly, but maybe it would scare america into waking up. Abortion being turned over will raise a criminal generation from terrible mothers. Atleast we would dodge that bullet if Obama won.

paul, nyc ny   August 9th, 2008 7:47 pm ET

I wish they all would go on vacation as well as the campaign UNTIL the convention and then just BI-weekly reports on the candidates and the campaigns. As it is now, on CNN they report the same story with basically the same "BEST POLITICAL TEAM ON THE BOOB TUBE" hour after hour til near exhaustion.

By the time it comes to the election i will be bored.

Genie, New Mexico   August 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

You know, the truth is we don't need Obama anymore now that the U.S. and Iraq are agreeing to troop withdrawals and the price of crude oil is dropping quickly. The war in Iraq was his main thing and now it's effectively over.

So let's send Obama back to his Senate job and the rest of us can continue on as usual.

PS–we don't need Hillary either.

Roxy Roller   August 9th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Hillary is out as VP

I think the fact Obama stayed silent while Bill Clinton was tainted with the marginalizing minorities brush, Obama lost the moral authority to lead.

It does not matter who Obama picks now

Veteran for Obama   August 9th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

McCain = Bush with white hair

McCain may be a military veteran but he greatly exagerates his accomplishments. He is no better than the 4200 plus soldiers who have been killed and sacrificed their life at the expense of McCain himself. At least McCain survived and is able to walk around and tell lies and dirty jokes like he is doing. He is sick.

All the talk about potential running mates and what they can "do for the ticket." What I'd like to hear either candidate say is that they're looking for someone who is fully capable of spping into the Presidency if necessary.

I will, in all likliehood vote for Sen. Obama, but if Gov. Ridge is Sen. McCain's choice, he more than meets that standard

I thing that is what obama does when he is facing heat, he leavs and runs. he takes the short way and waiting for good poling again.
what we want to now from his camp is wath him campiang is about, they say change buth wath kind of change, he Flip-Flops on economy, irag, nafta ,fisa, he votes for more than 130 times pressend.
he has no agenda no more because the withdraw plan from irag came from clinton 16 monds, obama said by the end off 2009 a 9 monds plan, so many things he agians now he is for, starts from withdraw plan on irag till offshore drilling.
to bad because the real idiea`s came from clinton on intrest rates, on healthcare obama stops in 1993 plan, on regulations of banking came from clinton. 99 of 100 idiea came from clinton he obama just agreed on it.(look for your self if you like at him org )

Independent Voter   August 9th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

Is there someone who cares whether yet another of the Democratic wannabe's who can't keep it zipped has a future in politics?

Talk about judgment! Clearly the Edwards sleaze behavior has been talked about since last fall, yet Barack gets photographed with this guy, gives him all kinds of press, attention, had him on the "short list" for VP.

What world to these Democratic operatives live in?? Finally there's nowhere to hide; Barack is off to Hawaii for a week and the Olympics are taking up an entire tv network. This is the safest time to saw off Mr. Edwards.

Edwards - what a coward! Running around hysterically - hiding in a men's room until is "saved" by hotel security. Then the self-serving "confession" and the Finance Chair who, oddly, decides to give the delicate couple a break by sending them across the country.

Money talks, we all know that. And Edwards has plenty of both.

So, Barry, another Dem colleague bites the dust. You need better judgment when choosing your friends.

I can't wait to see who he picks. And I do hope the Enquirer is out looking for an Obama Mama to tack on his tail. There is bound to be one out there.

NORA, FLORIDA   August 9th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

This , as is so many CNN's political stories, is not a story. Pick a topic of substance, research the candidates position, present it truthfully, without slant and present it to your audience for discussion. The foolish filler is just that, foolish. With Obama out of town, you guys don't have anyone to bang on. You are left with the same old material, (talking points) supplied by the McCain campaign.

Ratings from vets' groups:

Disabled American Veterans (per centage support of vets) McCain 20% Obama 80%

Iraq and Afgahanistan Veterans of America (overall rating) McCain D Obama B+

Vietnam Veterans of America (votes for/total votes) McCain 9/24 Obama 13/14

I started showing interest in American Politics during guod Clinton era, He entered as a jung man but came out very old. Look at George Bush old and tired beging for somebody to take over the oval office from him. Obama has now more gray hairs than b/4 he started to Campaign. So my question is, what do you think will happen to McCain if he fails to take some days off every week?.

Jon   August 9th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

Why is CNN not calling out John McCain for misleading America on the facts he keeps talking about on Obama. Is it because CNN is married to FOX news. If you know McCain is a liar why now just ask make him prove his so called facts.

James   August 9th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

I just hope the disabled veterans have printed material on McCain's voting record for veteran's vs. Obama's record.

I think they will be shocked and severely p.o.'d when they see how all of McCain's recognition of veterans is all lip service.

McCain is not the veteran's or the active military soldier's friend "my friends".

It's only fair for Obama to give McCain 10 days to have some extra attention on his campaign because he needs the help. I'm sure that McCain is busy liquidating more jobs from the US, selling out america and driving us into the poor house, just like he did to Ohio, this weekend.

Fortunately Obama is taking time to figure out how he can get us out of the hole that McCain and his criminal friends have dug us into.

Obama '08, we need someone to get our jobs back, and it's obvious McCain is all about giving them to foreign companies.

Alas, another captive audience for McCain to piggyback himself onto. The man can't draw his own crowds? Last week it was a Harley rally, where I gather there was some dissent at his presence. This week he was at the Iowa Fair visiting with Freight Train the gigantic swine. We all loved that picture you ran of the snoozing porker by the way. Darryl Miller   August 9th, 2008 5:02 pm ET

Time and time again, McCain was on the wrong side of key debates when it mattered most. In addition to his opposition to a federal holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., McCain was the deciding vote against overriding President Bush’s veto of the 1990 Civil Rights Act–the first defeat of a major civil rights bill in a quarter of a century. To make matters worse, just last weekend McCain defended the vote by equating it to “quotas,” even though the bill had nothing to do with quotas.

May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
1
March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.

March 2004: McCain once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs.
October 2003: McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.

McCain and his celebrity honk. The media let McCain air low blow ad and keep quite. How can one Senator calling anathor Senetor Celebrity that show all those people admire Obama as great leader are just ignorant and stupid. This is mocking those voters. If McCain wants to turn his image to known figure, he needs to work hard and not be jeolously of another. Obama didn't seek all these admirations and inspirational skills, he just born to lead and you can't take that away. Politics and Media have become trash, weak, and no higher standards. You do anything to bring other person down with you. This is now called huge political strategy and people do discussions on TV. I have lived all my life to see such Role Model African Men to become figure and push other African American and Africans to work hard to higher archivements, this is what you get from Republicans.

Oh, so glad Barry [Obama[ Soetor is looking to mend a ladder back up to his bus, from under it, with his Grandma.

No doubt this IS a working trip for Barry in Hawaii. They have another fake Birth Certificate to work on….or getting another one issued under the name he has been using, instead of what's on his current Birth Certificate that he has not disclosed, of Barry Soetoro, probably because then he would have to admit he was also a citizen of Indonesia, which makes him inelligble to be POTUS, according to Article II of our Constitution, because he does not have allegiance to our country, like Arnie Schwarzenegger, Keenu or George Soros.

Too, I'm sure sis and the rest are trying to figure out which hospital they're going to say he was born in, if was born in Hawaii, being they can't get that straight either.

This sounds like a comedy, but this is the guy the Democrats are putting up as their nominee-I guess with hopes no one will question that he can't even be one, based on laws, let alone his record (lack of) or experience.

You sure a movie wasn't done on this?

tim   August 9th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Obama should take the time to fill out some job applications. Maybe
get some experience on what it is like to work for a living before he
keeps giving air head answers to real questions.

JETCHARTER1   August 9th, 2008 4:48 pm ET

Who really care about who is ON THE TRAIL..or WHO'S taking the weekend off. Neither one of these guys has a clue as to what it's really going to take to be a functional President. We couldn't have a worst ticket for President if we summoned the devil.

Beth   August 9th, 2008 4:40 pm ET

Was just saying to my Obama-supporter 21-year old daughter that Barack needs to take a break from the campaigning and rest. Recent "blurbs" from his speeches indicate he's getting a little weary, and that opens the door for most media outlets to criticize his speaking. Time to shut the door on those who take 5-10 second clips and use them as ammunition.

DR. YES   August 9th, 2008 4:38 pm ET

Brenda of Saginaw ,Michigan   August 9th, 2008 4:31 pm ET

Well, McCain takes naps and don't work on the weekends. The "lord " worked for six and rested on the seventh. They both need to take a week off and get it together that way they both are well rested the beginning of the week.

Mike   August 9th, 2008 4:25 pm ET

Typical, Obama is retreating, trying to get out of the media spotlight he so craved originally, for fear that people will see him for what he really is. A typical politician, At least mccain isnt trying to pretend to be something he's not.

Grandma   August 9th, 2008 4:21 pm ET

McCain does not have anything to say even on his add. We know him always crying about media attention and when he has it he talk about Obama. Media putting Obama under microscope and they can not find anything and now all I see McCain TV add for free in all the stations. McCain is follower and Obama is the leader. He had all week to talk about energy and all he said all the above is my plan he never give any $ or brake down on his plan he said “ALL THE ABOVE “he means Obama plans. Please ask him what his plans are about the war he just says we need to win just like a child not just like a leader. Senator Obama is a leader young like Kennedy and Celebrity like Ragan

Sen. Obama, a man dedicated to his family and children. Another plus in his column!

William, New Jersey   August 9th, 2008 3:37 pm ET

What a joke Mccain is! ONce again he succeeds at making absolutely no sense what so ever.
1st off. theres no way he could have actually thought of these remarks himself. He is merely a puppet of the republican party as a whole. He's got the cleanest, though his image is far from clean, image of the repugs so lets use his image to capture america. Such a divisive strategy but one that will fail non the less. The repugs should have mccain work more on memorizing these silly, lie infested speeches before they put him in front of a fixed media circus again as they did in Arkansas on friday.
2nd Obamas strategy to wein america off foreign oil is obviously too comprehensive for mccains shallow intelect to keep pace with. so while he actually comes up with an idea of his own, one that is different from Bush's, he simply buys time to do so by puttin Obama on the defensive regarding his.
3rd Obama is on vacation. But has not left the country. He is spending time with his family. Mccain has the country all to himself. What is he doing with it. NOTHING. It reminds me of Tiger Woods being absent from golf all this time… The media that tries to bring Obama down is even at a lost because no one is watching! I wonder if they realize this.
After all its perfectly fine to take some time to R & R when youve been working twice as hard as your opponent like Obama has been. And as he will once elected president.
I have a degree in Political Science so maybe im a little more informed than most but uh, I dont think so. America is smarter than that sen. Mccain.

AnaB   August 9th, 2008 3:30 pm ET

Meanwhile the rest of us are spending our vacations close to home due to gas prices. As you read through these blogs you'll notice the same blah, blah trend; a majority (majority because: "This is CNN" [did you hear Jame Earl Jone's voice when you read that?] ) of the people on here blaming Mc_____ (fill in the blank with your cleaver 3rd grade play on a name; Same-Shame-Bush-Maverick-grandpa…) and less than a third of the people blaming _____ (take your pick here as well; NO Bama, Oblah blah, Hussein, The Chosen One, GoBama…) and everybody letting Nancy Pelosi off the hook for letting ALL of our senators, including these two, go on vacation without allowing a vote on the energy bill.

When McCain speaks to the veterans, it'd be great if he gave them some straight talk about why he has so often voted against bills that would support them. McCain supports the troops and veterans more in theory than he does in voting support.

aware   August 9th, 2008 3:15 pm ET

McCain 08! :)

Obama needs to take a long vacation and then get to work in the Senate gaining some legitimate experience and a credible record.

He sounds disrespectful and ignorant when he mocks McCain. His grin won't get him a win. It is just too shallow! :(

Someone in Vega should ask Senator Mc Cain why he did not support the GI Bill for our troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan He would rather stand with George W. and his we will veto Senator Webb's bill. Bet he wont be talking about how he does not honor our veterans in Vegas. Some one has to call him on this and also on how he cheated on his wife who had cancer and had also just survived a horrific car accident with his pill popping current wife Cindy.
YES WE CAN yES WE WILL OBAMA 08

If Ridge is McCains runningmate, McCain will win Pennsylvania and it is game over. As it stands right now, each candidate is going to win the states that they have won for the past 3 elections. Ohio is in play again which is Republican, but so is Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington and Wisconsin which is Democrat. Everything else will stay the same.

Doreen Augusta Maine   August 9th, 2008 2:57 pm ET

Poor baby McCain. He actually has to work a couple of days a week. Goodness knows he has not done that for a number of years (like 26 years).

John McCain have nothing to offer so just talking about Obama.

Farrell, Houston, Tx   August 9th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

Interesting that John McCain is considering Tom Ridge who hasn't lasted a hot minute at any job before Bush let him go. Republicans are looking ahead at 2012 and don't expect McCain to win.

Ilona Hussein Proud Canadian   August 9th, 2008 2:24 pm ET

CNN, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, another error again in (second for the day, crow instead of crowd) one of your articles!

Please check above article…..

Barack Obama out on the campaign trail on weekends while……
his, John McCain, was off the trail.

Do you mean …his opponent John McCain….?

I definitely don't think, that Barack would want to claim any ownership to John McCain!

I know that we depend a lot on spell checks, but seeing that in some cases, incorrect word usage can be spelled correctly, and therefore will not be caught by SPELL CHECK, you should really be more careful and do some proof reading or grammar check, You SAY that you are the BEST POLITICAL TEAM, so why so many daily errors?

On another subject, John McCain is ALWAYS WHINING about BARACK GETTING MORE NEWS COVERAGE, so please this week is your chance to give him all the news coverage he wants. Please highlight ALL OF McCAIN'S GAFFES, MISSPEAKS AND OUTRIGHT LIES. Let us see what he has to say then!

Sue in MI   August 9th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

Could have fooled me, John. Or don't you listen to the briefings and preps well enough to actually remember facts? Of course, this week you've just spent your time complaining about Obama, so I guess that didn't take a lot of briefing. Aren't you the guy who promised to run a positive campaign focused on YOUR ideas for the country? That lasted a whole two minutes after Obama was declared the nominee. America is not fooled by you, Jonh–you are going to ask Cheney to stay on as VP, although he will have to decline since he'll be in prison.

Zhonni   August 9th, 2008 2:18 pm ET

I think McCain's attack would backfire on him. He is the one that has appeared in many spots on TV and has 9 houses and wears a $500 shoe.

Who's the celebrity? McCain, Bar(r) (or) None.

R. E. M.   August 9th, 2008 2:13 pm ET

It amazes me that Obama calling himself the 'ONE' to unite all Americans has in fact divided not only the American Public but has also almost split the Democratic party in two. I sure miss the old Democratic party of Scoop Jackson et al. This may be the 1st year in 36 years of voting that I wont make it to the polls. Pretty sad the Democratic party cant do any better then Obama and Hillary. The Democratic party has become a party of divisivness and a collection of special interests. Maybe its time for a real 3rd party made up of the people in the middle. A party that does not include any left wing socialists or right wingers. Sad SAD sAd state of affairs in our American politics.

Eli   August 9th, 2008 2:10 pm ET

OH LORD he is family seeing his TYPICAL WHITE GRANDMOTHER, I guess he is tryign to get his poll ratings up.

LIFE LONG DEMOCRAT not voting for the BIG O.

kathryn   August 9th, 2008 2:09 pm ET

It's about time the media starts to balance the coverage of these 2, and stop forcing Obama down our throats. It seems Obama has even gotten the message that he is over-exposed with CNNs poll last week showing how 50% of Americans have heard too much about him, (probably why he's running off on vacation.) The media SHOULD have been spending more time trying to "dig for the truth" about people like John Edwards,(who project one image but live a different reality,) instead of pushing their choice for president on us and actively ignoring the truth about a fellow liberal.

Jealousy is a terrible personality trait which seems to be coming from the McCain campaign in abundance these days and it has brought down many leaders in due time due to being blind sided by it. The blasphemy ad really underlines a man' s character who states he is highly superstitious and has his lucky penny in his pants pocket when we as Christians trust in the words on the penny: IN GOD WE TRUST. Sen. McCain's campaign staff called us Americans whiners when his campaign now is whining daily. Talk about the facts and trouble us everyday citizens face daily in this country where our infra-structure is falling apart, jobs are vanishing to third world countries, illegal immigrant gangs are terrorizing our cities and most of us can't get afford to go to the doctor due to non health care.
Get to the real issues and graduate from preschool will you? We deserve better from a man who wants to be our commander in chief!

Karen-phoenix   August 9th, 2008 2:06 pm ET

Amazing! McCain works an average of 3 or 4 days a week. Won't happen again in my life time! He just toooo old, out of touch, out dated and we need to march on with a new, bright, intellegent young man that can work 24/7 and still keep his senses. Go Obama!!!

DR. YES   August 9th, 2008 2:05 pm ET

i'm not sure mccain has the stamina for this.he seems confused at times.

Bobby   August 9th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

McCain is going to need a lot more vacation than Obama if he becomes president. He'll need a lot more sleep too. Oh, and he'll need someone to remind him that Czechoslovakia is not a country, Iraq and Afghanistan don't share a border, and that he is an expert on foreign policy because it will be easy to forget…because he is old

pete   August 9th, 2008 2:00 pm ET

Charles   August 9th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

Any Republican would be doing just as good as the NOminee, the only people that want McCain are people who are voting against Obama. McCain has no excitement to his campaign. Huckabee had excitement, Romney had excitement. McCain does not inspire excitement, I read about a Possible DUI he had gotten a few years ago and it seems that has gotten swept under the rug some how too. I dont know maybe Ive lost faith in the process, I had lost faith in politicians a lont time ago.

just cant get it right   August 9th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

i am confused…what can McCain say to these Disabled Vets…"sorry i voted AGAINST anything that could have helped you" i mean really, this is the type of politician who will pander to a pedophile…or anyone else who would marry a woman young enough to be his daughter…to get a vote. John McCain is disgusting

Griff   August 9th, 2008 1:38 pm ET

Good for McCain, he finally managed to stay up for an entire week! After all, he calls Congress lazy- when he himself has neglected his "day job" to campaign.

Still, its not like he has work to do. Just stand up, call Obama a celebrity (as if its awful that the citizens, media and other countries respect our president because he can speak ENGLISH unlike Bush) and volunteer his wife for biker topless contests.
