ABC News' Jan Simmonds reports: Early next week former Pennsylvania Governor and believed Republican Vice Presidential candidate Tom Ridge will join John McCain on the trail as he tours Pennsylvania, ABC News has learned.

By campaigning with Ridge, whom is still very popular in the state, the McCain campaign hopes to draw in more supporters for the presumptive republican nominee in what is shaping up to be pivotal electoral map state.  The two plan to spend most of their time in the more conservative western and central parts of Pennsylvania, which McCain has not visited with much frequency during his campaign.  Among the expected stops is Erie, Ridge's hometown.

On ABC News' This Week last Sunday, the former Secretary of Homeland Security declined to say whether or not there have been discussions with McCain about joining the ticket, saying he'd prefer to keep those conversations private.  He did say though, that he did not think McCain, a friend of Ridge's for over 25 years, would make abortion views a litmus test for those he is considering as his running mate.  Ridge, whom is Roman Catholic, has maintained a pro-choice stance throughout his life in public service.

I just read the latest poll. Barack Obama is only ahead by 11 points. Eventhoug I am a republican I just dont fell the energy with McCain. Hes not a true conservative and he flip flops just to try to win. I really dont see him winnig period. I will not vote for a closeted Democrat. People are husrting and McCain will nto be the answer this time around.

I have to agree with Jason. As a republican we have the worse candidate in history. He is stiff and at time seems lost for words. I think his age may be why?. The man is just to old. So Im with you. I am not happy at all. In all honesty Barack comes across of being more conservative thatn McCain. I alos cant stand his wife. She has no class. She comes across a being a wanabee class act. Strange!!!

We know McCain is not Bush. PA welcomes you.

Jason said: Even though I am a republican I just don’t feel the energy with McCain. He’s not a true conservative and he flip flops just to try to win. I really don’t see him winning period . . . “ Jason, who are you kidding? You are not a Republican. You are a paid Obama blogger. Your post is pretty transparent. I am a Republican, and any real Republican understands that McCain, while not perfect, is a far better choice than a leftwing liberal who never met a tax he didn't like.

to Sheila Pave: I am a republican. McCain will loose.

angie:
I didn't know that you spoke for
the entire state of Pennsylvania!
Who won Pennsylvania in the
Democrat Primary? Hillary Clinton
that's who! Obama wasn't even close!
He still thinks the people "are bitter
and cling to their religion"!
Just say No to Obama! No You Can't!

But they love him in Europe!

McCain was a Naval commander and pilot, POW, and now you whiney libs bash him on every turn. I find it amusing that you live under the freedom and security provided by veterans and yet run your pathetic drivel into the ground. I also served in the best Navy on this planet and stood on the wall so all could be free...including you pinko liberals! I have to ask....what has Oama accomplished in his time? Spending years listening to Rev. Wright, using drugs, and having a homosexual affair? Change we can believe in????!!! No thanks!! McCain gets my vote!!!

Gallup polls still shows Obama in the lead. That is all that matters at this point. The polls will change daily.

I am finding it interesting that some of you Repub find McCain an empty suite also. I am glad there are honest people out there.

I know Obama is not a saviour but he is the best of the two. I votes on him.

Ridge, you cannot be serious. This is not news. I see New Jersey's Lautenberg (democrat) is available as he is busy chasing people who like the NRA. Lautenberg at 84 or more would make McCain seem young. Look up age and congress on wikipedia. One sees that 25 or more are over 70. No wonder nothing gets done. Lets push for age limits on these offices - or an arts and crafts session in the afternoons.

Hillary had the best policies.... She has the same policies as Obama... 95% the same.... from day one.

Hillary did not win because she (her people) ran a bad campain in the beginning, she believed she had it wrapped up before it even started. That is no one fault but her own. She signed off on FL and Mich. just like all the others did. She is just as guilty not respecting their votes as the others.

Her signature is on every single document. She signed them.

This is crazy.

QUESTION: What's Obama's opinion on the invasion of Georgia by Russia?

ANSWER: "Ummm...uhhhh....ummm.mmmm...I'll agree with what Mrs. Clinton said."

Hillary and Bill’s plan is to show up at the convention, and make it painfully obvious to the entire planet that Barack Obama had to be dragged over the finish line with the help of the super delegates. For sheer entertainment value, the Democratic National Convention is going to be hard to beat! Did anyone think this woman was going to slink away quietly? No, she’s going to Denver and rub Obama’s face in it. She’s going to take the opportunity to remind him, in a very public way, that he couldn’t win the nomination without the help of the super delegates, most of whom he bought and paid for. No wonder Obama’s in Hawaii. He’s trying to calm down. I was going to forgo watching the convention, and just pick up a couple of movies at Blockbuster. I’m rethinking that plan. The convention might just be worth tuning in . .

I remember when Edward's endorsed Obama and they stood on stage hugging each other and pandering to the voters. I wonder if NoBama knew about Edward's affair at the time. I swear, the Democrats are a bunch of liars aren't they? News for our children of America to see these Democrats in high postions, lying, cheating, embezzling, and everything else. I do feel sorry for Elizabeth and the children because of the media scrutny of this story. It seems, like someone already stated, that Obama has a problem with his associations. If this keeps on, there won't be anyone left but Hillary, and he'll have to choose her. Sorry, Dems, but I don't see you winning the White House this year! Waaaaayyyyy too much baggage!

Posted by: jackson | Aug 8, 2008 3:58:09 PM

My, My! What do we have here? Another Democrat falls to the ditch in lies and smut! I thought this week was going to be about McCain, but seems like it will be about Edwards and how the Democrats continue to be liars.....whose next....Obama....oopss...he's already lied and lied and lied again!

ridge won't make a difference in PA. PA was smart enough not to go for bush/cheney in 2000 or 2004, and we will be smart enough not to vote for bush-3 this time. Obama 2008!!!

From the Democratic Party platform draft ...

"The Democratic Party believes that there is no more important priority than renewing
34 American leadership on the world stage. This will require diplomatic skill as capable as
35 our military might. Instead of refusing to confront our most pressing threats, we will use
36 all elements of American power to keep us safe, prosperous and free. Instead of
37 alienating our nation from the world, we will enable America –once again –to lead."

Forget fixing America for Americans -- lets make the Europeans love us like, like, oh wait a minute, they've never liked us.

Republicans need a pro-choise candidate for balance. Tommy Ridge, choice and duct tape!!!

Posted by: ricky | Aug 8, 2008 5:47:23 PM

McCain will make by far the superior President.

Obama is in the same bed as Bush on appeasing Russia. It is the wrong foreign policy position.

McCain called Russia out on it's aggression years ago.

McCain/Palin 08!
