Cheney will speak at Republican convention
This statement just came in from Vice President Cheney's office (via USA TODAY's David Jackson):
"The Vice President looks forward to participating in the Republican National Convention and continuing to work for the election of Senator McCain and other Republican candidates in the coming months"
Cheney's office also confirms for David that the vice president will be speaking from the podium at some point during the convention.
That would seem to refute the reports in recent days that he might not even attend the GOP get-together in St. Paul.
Update at 10:45 a.m. ET: President Bush is due to speak on the covention's opening night -- Monday, Sept. 1.
Update at 12:15 p.m. ET: And it's Monday night when Cheney will speak, the White House now says.
